Braxton Gillam, president of the association, said the lease at the Aetna Building expired and the organization was faced with moving within the building because The JBA's space was part of a larger lease executed by another tenant.
"We had to spend the money to move anyway, so we took the best option," Gillam said.
The association had been in the Aetna Building for five years, following eight years at Riverplace Tower and before that several years in the Stein Mart Building.
Gillam said the association looked at 10 options and selected Wells Fargo Center.
"Our last landlords were great, but we feel we're in the best location. It's very convenient," said Gillam.
In addition to lease terms including some free rent, Gillam said The JBA has access to the auditorium in the building and having The River Club upstairs is a plus.
Another advantage is Wells Fargo Center's extensively landscaped atrium lobby, where the association plans to host its annual holiday party.
"There were a number of non-monetary benefits," Gillam said.
The JBA's new address is 1 Independent Drive, Suite 2201. The telephone number, (904) 399-4486, remains the same.
After more than 20 years in offices on the Southbank Downtown, The Jacksonville Bar Association moved last week into Northbank office space in Wells Fargo Center.
