Heather Quick

Lawyer Snapshot: Heather Quick

Family: Married to Mike Quick for 12 years, Lily (10), Abigail (8) and Beck (4).

Pets: Jackson, our 7-year-old golden doodle who is greatly underappreciated, and a 2-year-old guinea pig named Squeaky.

Education: Stetson University College of Law, JD 2000; University of North Florida, BSN 1998

Admitted to the Bar: 2001

Employed by: The Law Office of Heather B. Quick, PA

Field of practice: Marital and family law. I returned to Jacksonville in late 2002, after working as an assistant state attorney in the 6th Judicial Circuit. I was fortunate enough to work for my uncle, Kurt Simpson, and he mentored me in criminal defense and family law before he sold his practice. I taught at Florida Coastal School of Law for a couple of years when my children were young and opened my own practice in 2010 focusing on family law. I am passionate about helping families through the difficult transition of divorce and enjoy litigating cases.

Professional organizations: The Jacksonville Bar Association, Judicial Relations Committee.  I am honored to serve as the co-chair of the Judicial Relations Committee this year with Bruce Maxwell and am thoroughly enjoying that experience.

Community involvement: We are active in our church, Beaches Chapel in Neptune Beach. My husband and I run the Donna half-marathon every year and enjoy training for the race and participating in the community race.

How did you become involved? My dear friend persuaded me to train for the Donna its first year and I faithfully woke up at 3 and 4 a.m. to train on Saturday mornings for a few months. After that grueling training, I only commit to the half-marathon.

How can someone else become involved?

[Heather] The wonderful thing is that anyone can run the distance following the Galloway training method. There are groups all over the city that meet on Saturday mornings and multiple levels of runners, beginners through experienced runners.

What have you learned/achieved through the experience?

That breast cancer touches so many lives and if we have the ability to run, we ought to take advantage of our health and run for those who cannot.

What was the last book you read or are reading?

I just finished, "40 days to Personal Revolution" by Baron Baptiste, which I highly recommend to anyone, but particularly lawyers in order to get perspective and balance in your life. I am currently reading, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." I am trying to keep up with my 10-year-old, who is already on book seven!
