Jessie Ball duPont Center project on development review agenda

The conceptual exterior design for the Jessie Ball duPont Center, the former Haydon Burns Public Library at 122 Ocean St., is on the agenda Today before the city Downtown Development Review Board. The 48-year-old building is designated a “Landmark” structure by the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission, which has approved the proposed new exterior design on Dec. 12. It was purchased in June for $2.2 million by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, which intends to convert the library into office and meeting space for local nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. The proposed design includes replacing the live oak trees with palms and replacing the sidewalk around the building with brick pavers. Most of the original elements of the façade will be restored and maintained as original, according to documents filed with the city.
