‘Gold Key’ scholastic art exhibited at Main Library

By Max Marbut, Staff Writer

The work of some of the area’s most talented young artists is on display through Feb. 28 on the third floor of the Main Library.

The exhibit showcases the 2014 Gold Key recipients in the North East Florida Scholastic Art Awards presented by the Duval Art Teachers Association. The competition, part of the National Alliance for Young Artists initiative, was open to students in grades 7-12 in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties.

More than 1,300 paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures were submitted to the jurors who selected the winners.

The 113 pieces judged as Gold Key entries will compete nationally with winners from 100 similar competitions. The national awards ceremony is June 6 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
