Legal notes: Delegal selected as elite American Bar Foundation fellow

From Staff

Jacksonville attorney T.A. “Tad” Delegal has been selected as a fellow of the American Bar Association.

Delegal, an employment and administrative law specialist, was selected for his “dedication to the welfare of the community and the highest principles of the legal profession,” according to a news release.

The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, an honorary organization of lawyers, judges, and legal scholars, comprises less than 1 percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction.

Fellows support the research work of the American Bar Foundation through annual contributions and sponsorship of seminars and events of direct relevance to leaders of the legal profession.

Delegal is the only member of The Florida Bar who is board certified in both labor and employment as well as state and federal administrative practice.

Practicing in Jacksonville since 1991, Delegal has served on the executive council for The Florida Bar Labor and Employment Section, The Florida Bar Administrative Law Certification Committee, The Florida Bar Labor and Employment Certification Committee and The Jacksonville Bar Board of Governors.

Public Defender employees earn awards

Public Defender Matt Shirk announced the annual winners of the trial lawyer, trial team, employee and exceptional support staff performer of the year.

Assistant Public Defender Harris Waldo, who’s been with the office five years, received the trial lawyer of the year award. He is a felony division chief and manages his own caseload in repeat offender court.

The trial team of the year award went to the group in trial of the State of Florida vs. Solomon, in which the jury found the defendant not guilty in a homicide case. Team members were Lynn Rees, legal assistant; Deb Billard, assistant public defender; Sue Chamberlain, paralegal; Hal Bennett, investigator; Al Perkins, co-counsel; Kendall Anderson, investigator; and Joanna Pajcic, mitigation specialist.

Jennifer Watson, an assistant public defender recently promoted to the felony court unit, won employee of the year honors. She spent much of 2013 as division chief in the County Court misdemeanor unit and co-managed the pro bono opportunities program.

The exceptional support staff performer was Sue Chamber, who leads a team of five legal researchers and assists mitigation specialists, investigators, attorneys and management with projects.
