Another Broken Egg cracks Southside

By Karen Brune Mathis, Managing Editor

Another Broken Egg Cafe, the Miramar Beach-based breakfast-lunch chain, is preparing to open in Tapestry Park near Jacksonville’s Tinseltown area in Southside.

The sit-down casual dining café specializes in breakfast, brunch and lunch.

Owner Cojak Investments of Lake Mary LLC applied for a building permit for a $220,000 interior remodel at 4828 Deer Lake Drive W., No. 9.

Franchise owner Jake Alleman said it should open in August. It will have 154 seats. He said three more sites are in review.

The Jacksonville hours are 7 a.m.-2 p.m. daily except for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The menu includes omelettes, pancakes, egg specialties, salads, burgers, sandwiches, side items and drinks including mimosas, margaritas, mojitos and others, such as Creole Au Lait, which involves vanilla schnapps.

Another Broken Egg operates in 12 states. Florida has 12 locations, including Jacksonville, with two more coming soon. No other Jacksonville area locations were listed.

The chain’s site criteria for franchisees state that the locations are ideally 3,500 to 4,000 square feet with covered exterior seating for additional outdoor dining. The desired location is the end unit in a “boutique mall environment” in a commercial area.

Another Broken Egg needs eight to 12 full-time and 10-15 part-time workers.

It depends on the region, but the average per-person check is $13.

The company’s website is anotherbrokenegg.com.

Publix build-outs OK’d

Publix Super Markets Inc. won city approval for permits to renovate its Argyle and Deerwood stores.

The city approved the permits, which total $925,000, for the Lakeland-based chain to renovate its almost 51,000-square-foot store at 6001 Argyle Forest Blvd. and its almost 47,000-square-foot location at 9964 Old Baymeadows Road.

McIntyre Elwell & Strammer General Contractors Inc. is handling both.

Publix also applied to renovate the façade of the Deerwood store.

The two are among at least 10 stores that Publix is renovating or rebuilding in Jacksonville. Constructions costs for those projects total more than $8 million.

Publix.com shows almost 30 Publix stores in Duval County.
