Laquidara recognized for 29 years of counsel to JEA

By Max Marbut, Staff Writer

The final item on the agenda for the JEA board of directors Tuesday was formal recognition of former city General Counsel Cindy Laquidara and her years of legal advice to the public utility.

Board Chairman Mike Hightower read a proclamation that detailed Laquidara’s efforts, which began in 1985. Hightower cited her legal counsel on acquisition, construction and financing matters involved with the St. Johns River Power Park, the Brandy Branch gas turbine project, the Greenland Energy Center and the 1998 charter revision that changed the Jacksonville Electric Authority to JEA.

“She will be missed by all of the JEA family,” said Hightower.

It was the second time Laquidara received a proclamation from the board. The first, she said, was after the St. Johns River Power Park opened, and it came with a bonus.

“They gave me a hard hat. It was signed by everyone who worked on the project … and it had a piece of coal on it,” said Laquidara.
