Heather Byrer Carbone

Lawyer snapshot: Heather Byrer Carbone

From Staff

Name: Heather Byrer Carbone

Age: 37

Family: Husband, Vincent, and a gregarious 3-year-old son, Michael

Pets: Beanie, a 17-year-old calico cat and lots of tropical fish. (The fish all have names, too, but the Daily Record would likely need to allot more space for the Lawyer Snapshot if I listed them all here.)

Education: Florida State University 1997, Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, 2001.

Admitted to the Bar: 2001

Employed by: Boyd & Jenerette

Field of practice: Workers’ compensation defense and employment law

Professional organizations: The Jacksonville Bar Association, E. Robert Williams Inns of Court and Association of Builders & Contractors

Community involvement: The Friends of 440 Scholarship Fund is a charitable organization that provides scholarship funds for eligible students who are dependents and descendants of an individual who has been injured or killed in the course and scope of their employment and who received benefits under the Florida workers’ compensation law. In addition, dependents of individuals whose primary employment is connected with the workers’ compensation law are also eligible to receive scholarships. See 440scholarship.org.

How did you become involved? My partner, Blake Hood, and I were co-chairs of the organization for Northeast Florida from 2010-12.

How can someone else become involved? Contact my buddy, Mike O’Rourke, at (904) 398-0811. He is a current co-chair of the organization in North Florida and welcomes involvement. Also, the group meets at Mudville Grille on Atlantic Boulevard on the first Friday of every month at 4 p.m., so at least come join us for drinks.

What have you learned/achieved through the experience? The Friends of 440 group involves collaboration of events between attorneys that often practice on the other side of the aisle. The attorneys in Jacksonville, especially the workers’ compensation practitioners, are overwhelmingly friendly, generous and make practicing law in Jacksonville a pleasant experience.

What was the last book you read or are reading? “AWOL on the Appalachian Trail” by David Miller. I am slowly section-hiking the AT and I am obsessed with any book about it.
