Normandy Square in West Jacksonville is adding an Ace Hardware store, which appears to be the eighth in the city.

At least 20 Ace Hardware stores operate in the five-county metropolitan area, according to a store-locator list. They are owned by individual retailers.

Ace Hardware spokeswoman Kate Kirkpatrick at Oak Brook, Illinois, headquarters said Lloyd Ramjit, who is new to the organization, will own the Normandy Square store.

She said the store should open in March.

The city is reviewing a permit application for a $125,000 build-out of the space at 7953 Normandy Blvd. No contractor is listed.

Nudell Architects of Orlando is the architect.

Brixmor Property Group owns the shopping center. A site plan shows Ace Hardware will occupy 10,080 square feet near the eastern side of the Winn-Dixie-anchored shopping center.

The space now is used for a Halloween store.

Acehardware.com said more than 5,000 Ace Hardware stores are locally owned and operated in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and about 55 countries. It said it is the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative in the industry.

JAA to start work on $12 million maintenance facility

The city approved permits Friday for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority to start construction on a $12.43 million maintenance facility.

F&G Construction General Contractors Inc. is the contractor for the project at 2259 Cole Flyer Road at Jacksonville International Airport.

Six permits show three new buildings totaling 47,410 square feet and a 20,368-square-foot vehicle storage canopy; demolition of the existing 6,000-square-foot maintenance facility; and a new almost 6,700-square-foot grounds building, a new car wash, a new parking canopy building and a new trash enclosure.

The authority said in March it would start construction on the facility this fall.

Spokeswoman Debbie Jones said previously the authority would relocate and rebuild the facility and consolidate its warehouse/inventory facility.

She said the new facility would bring “much-needed upgrades and capabilities for the maintenance department that are not being met in the current building, which was constructed in the late ’60s, early ’70s.”

Jones said the warehouse and inventory office space now is in an air cargo building.

The facility’s function is to repair and maintain vehicles/equipment, and store and distribute supplies, she said.

Jones said Monday the project should be completed about October 2018.
