After more than two months with no water taxi service Downtown, the city’s water taxis will be carrying passengers on the St. Johns River today.
The vessels were inspected Thursday by the U.S. Coast Guard and approved as vessels for hire.
Fire control and life-saving equipment and “water-tight integrity,” which is the nautical term for they won’t sink, said Coast Guard spokeswoman Petty Officer Lauren Jacobsen.
The two taxis will begin service at 4:30 p.m. on a route between the Landing and Metropolitan Park Marina on the Northbank and temporary docks at the Wyndham Hotel and Friendship Park on the Southbank.
The vessels will ferry passengers until three hours after the end of the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers game.
