Baptist Health has completed a $16 million purchase of the duPont Center I and II office buildings on the Downtown Southbank.

Through Baptist Health Properties Inc., the health care system bought the two buildings and a vacant parcel Monday. The deed was recorded Wednesday with the Duval County Clerk of Court.

Baptist Health bought the structures from Flagler Development Co.

Baptist Health CFO Scott Wooten said previously the acquisition was a strategic investment because of the buildings’ proximity to the Baptist Jacksonville campus at 800 Prudential Drive.

The duPont buildings, totaling about 160,000 square of space, are on almost nine acres at 1650 and 1660 Prudential Drive. The 1.9-acre vacant property also is on Prudential Drive.

Wooten said the buildings are 89 percent leased. Baptist Health plans to occupy available space there over time. It already has plans to move a Baptist Rheumatology office there.
