Baptist Health announced Tuesday that Mary Ellen Schopp would become its first senior vice president and chief human resources officer.

Schopp has more than 30 years of human resources experience, most recently serving in the same position at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Before that, she worked in human resources leadership positions at Lawson Products, ConAgra Foods, PepsiCo and Unilever.

Schopp started at Baptist Health Monday.

“I’m energized to join the Baptist Health team; they are focused on all the right things,” Schopp said in a news release.

She said that “in this dynamic health care environment,” Baptist Health has opportunities “to positively impact the lives of our employees, physicians, patients and communities.”

Schopp will report to CEO Brett McClung. She will plan, direct and be responsible for all aspects of human resources at the hospital.

Schopp also will oversee attracting and developing talent, supporting diversity and inclusion and increasing employee engagement.

“Three factors make Mary Ellen an exceptional addition to our executive team,” McClung said in the release. “Her passion for people, depth of experience, and alignment with our mission make her an excellent cultural fit.”

Schopp received a bachelor’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Illinois. She received her master’s degrees in industrial/labor relations and organizational development from Loyola University.
