Bar Bulletin question: How will you stay fit during the holidays?

D. Kent Sausaman, Frazier and Frazier, P.A.

My plan for staying healthy during the holidays is to try my best to treat each day just like any other day and not allow the holidays to be an excuse for eating poorly and not exercising. I normally exercise in the morning a handful of days during the week, so I am aiming to maintain that routine. I also hope to avoid the extra sweets that will inevitably be present in my home and office.

During the hectic holiday season, I still try my best to hit the gym during lunch hours. Most holiday events are in the evening, so a lunch-time workout does not create a conflict. When possible, I also try to squeeze in a fight-fit workout with one of my favorite lawyers, Rohani Mahyera, of Holland & Knight. It’s a great way to stay fit while spending time with friends during the holidays.

I look forward to the glut of food associated with the holidays. The extra calories associated with the holiday season provide a springboard for (read: requires) increased training volume in my powerlifting routine. For those of you considering a New Year’s resolution related to fitness, why not start tomorrow? Take advantage of the relatively empty gyms before everyone signs up in early January.

Ryan T. Hyde, Thames, Markey & Heekin, P.A.

Between Christmas cookies and parties, maintaining my exercise routine will surely be a daunting task. I plan to continue working out during lunch, and with any luck, I can lay off the sweets as well. Does running around for last-minute gifts count? If all else fails, there’s always a New Year’s resolution.
