Duke Energy and JEA have signed an agreement giving JEA an option to acquire up to 20 percent (approximately 440 megawatts) of Duke's Lee Nuclear Station (2,234 megawatt; twin AP1000 reactors) in Cherokee County, S.C. The option can be exercised following Duke Energy's receipt of a nuclear regulatory license. JEA estimates the plant could be operational in 10 years and would assist in its efforts to lessen its use of fossil fuels. For more info see tomorrow's Daily Record.
