Telling at least 400 business and community executives Thursday that “the economy is not improving,” the chief energy executive of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce outlined the nation’s risks if energy resources aren’t identified and developed.
Karen Alderman Harbert warned the Cornerstone meeting of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce against the BANANA and NOPE syndromes.
“’Build absolutely nothing anywhere near anyone,’” she said. “We can’t build anything in our country to save our lives.”
That also means “not on planet Earth.”
Harbert, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, is on a 30-city “energy reality tour.”
“We’ve got to invest in people and we’ve got to invest in technology,” she said.
The next quarterly Cornerstone meeting is scheduled for noon Sept. 7. It will be the second annual Jacksonville Jaguars kickoff Cornerstone event and will feature Jaguars coaches, players and staff.
