Local Mitigation Strategy Task Force: Nassau County’s Local Mitigation Strategy Task Force is seeking public input. They are looking for projects that would decrease vulnerability or reduce damage/losses a natural hazard (i.e., flooding, wind damage, etc.). Duval County

NEFBA Government Affairs Committee: The next Government Affairs meeting is 8:30 a.m., Thursday, June 25 at the NEFBA offices, 103 Century 21 Drive, Suite 100.

NEFBA apprentice resolution: Jacksonville City Council honored the graduating NEFBA apprentices and the apprenticeship program May 12, proclaiming the day “NEFBA Apprenticeship Program Day” in Jacksonville. The proclamation acknowledged the role of the program in enhancing the quality of life in our community. The resolution was sponsored by council Vice President Greg Anderson.

Clay County

Transportation impact fee: At the May meeting of the Clay County Board of Commissioners, the board discussed the TPO Transportation Study and transportation funding challenges of the county. Commissioner Gavin Rollins proposed extending the transportation impact fee moratorium for another six months to discuss funding alternatives. The proposal passed 5-0. The moratorium expires at the end of the year.

St. Johns County

New county commissioner: Gov. Rick Scott appointed Jim Johns to the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, District 1. The seat had been held by Cyndi Stevenson, who resigned after being elected to the Florida House of Representatives in a special election. NEFBA supported the appointment of Johns, president of Solid Rock Engineering.

Land development code changes: St. Johns County will hold a public meeting on amendments to Article III, Special Districts of the Land Development Code on June 16 in front of the Board of County Commissioners. The changes would create the proposed West Augustine Overlay District.
