Crowley Maritime Corp. applied for a permit to build-out a 36,000-square-foot building at 8200 Nations Way in Cypress Point Business Park.

RAM Architecture Inc. is the architect for the $756,000 project.

Crowley will lease the building for additional space resulting from its growth, such as the award of the U.S. Defense Freight Transportation Services contract.

Crowley subsidiary Crowley Logistics Inc. won a multiyear contract to provide transportation and related services supporting Department of Defense activities in the U.S. and Canada.

A spokesman said in October the space will accommodate about 150 employees in positions supporting government services, finance and other roles.

Building plans show conference space, huddle rooms, IT, disaster recovery, dining and break rooms, a mother’s room, human resources, procurement and more.

No contractor is listed.

Permit modification for UniFirst laundry center in review

The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing a minor modification to a permit for the proposed UniFirst Jacksonville laundry center in the Perimeter West Industrial Park.

The written description of the 63,517-square-foot commercial building says it comprises a 51,810-square-foot first phase and 11,707-square-foot second phase on a 5.63-acre site.

Plans show a slightly different configuration of a proposed one-story 51,810-square-foot first floor and 4,357-square-foot second floor with a second phase of 8,707 square feet.

UniFirst Corp. plans to build the $6 million project at 4251 Perimeter Industrial Parkway E., at northeast Interstate 295 and Pritchard Road.

A spokesman said UniFirst will own the facility, which could be completed late this year.

It then will no longer need to lease its branch operation along Haines Street.
