The city’s Office of Economic Development intends to introduce legislation approving a development agreement with USA Quartz LLC to set up a manufacturing plant in North Jacksonville.

OED Executive Director Kirk Wendland said Monday the Boca Raton-based company makes quartz slabs and other products for residential and hospitality customers.

Wendland told the Mayor’s Budget Review Committee the agreement would allow USA Quartz to lease about 63,000 square feet of commercial space formerly occupied by General Electric Co. in Imeson Industrial Park in North Jacksonville,

In exchange, USA Quartz would receive a $210,000 Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund grant from the city and state. The city would be responsible for 20 percent, or $42,000, with the state paying 80 percent, or $168,000.

OED has not released other agreement details, including the number of jobs and capital investment committed by USA Quartz.

Legislation is expected to be introduced within the week, with any economic development agreement needing City Council approval.
