New York women’s clothing designer Tory Burch will open a store in St. Johns Town Center, making Jacksonville the ninth location in Florida operated by the popular brand.

The city is reviewing a permit for a $350,000 interior renovation for Tory Burch at 4835 River City Drive, No. 101. The 3,200-square-foot space is near the southern end of the Town Center, not far from J. Alexander’s.

The brand launched in 2004 in Manhattan.

The business has more than 150 freestanding boutiques and a presence in more than 3,000 department and specialty stores, as well as at toryburch.com.

It also has outlet stores in Orlando and Sunrise.

Chair, CEO and designer Tory Burch designs and sells women’s wear and accessories.

Tory Burch is considered an American lifestyle brand known for color, print and details.

Burch also offers branded eyewear, fragrance and beauty products.

A 2014 story at fastcompany.com said Tory Burch “blossomed into a global lifestyle brand more quickly than any other in the last decade,” and was set to exceed $1 billion in revenue that year.

Burch worked in fashion, public relations and marketing before opening her own store, whose inventory almost sold out on the first day.

Since 2009, the Tory Burch Foundation has worked to encourage and support women-owned small businesses in the U.S.

Tory Burch’s media representative did not return an email or phone call Wednesday.

Work to start on exterior at 20 W. Adams St.

Work could soon be visible on a Downtown building slated for college student housing.

The city is reviewing a permit application for Danis Construction LLC to repair and recondition the exterior of the 20 W. Adams St. building.

The permit shows a $400,000 project to perform restorative cleaning of the six-story structure, which Florida State College at Jacksonville intends to lease for residential housing for students.

KBJ Architects is the architect on the project.

Plans call for shell building work to complete exterior repairs and to recondition and work on the brick, storefront and glass block.

Specifics call for a new storefront, glass block and cornices to match the original as closely as possible.

FSCJ intends to create housing for 58 students on the second through sixth floors and to convert 24 of the rooms by the fall and all by the end of the next school year.

The first floor is under study for a restaurant.

The property is owned by Phoenix Adams Rising LLC. The Downtown Investment Authority anticipates the developer will make a $6.2 million capital investment in the building.

Through the DIA, the developer was approved for $600,000 from the Downtown Historic Preservation and Revitalization Trust Fund to restore the exterior of the building and for some elements inside.

Those funds will be drawn down during construction.

The building opened in 1911.

Buffalo Wild Wings plans a restaurant at South Beach Regional Shopping Center in Jacksonville Beach.

IRT Property Co. of North Miami Beach, in care of Equity One Inc., applied to the St. Johns River Water Management District to create an outparcel at the 4180 S. Third St. shopping center for construction of the restaurant.

A 6,192-square-foot building, including a covered patio, is planned on 2.24 acres.

EnVision Design + Engineering LLC is the agent.

The site is next to Staples.

Jersey Mike’s joining Point Meadows center

Jersey Mike’s Subs is preparing to join Point Meadows Shopping Center, where the pilot Winn-Dixie store opened in February.

The city is reviewing a permit application for the sub shop in Unit 106 at the 10915 Baymeadows Road center.

Oakwell Companies is the contractor for the $99,000 build-out of 1,400 square feet of space.

The jerseymikes.com website shows 10 area shops.

Daily’s nearer to construction on Sunbeam Road

First Coast Energy is making progress toward its Daily’s convenience store and gas station at southeast San Jose Boulevard and Sunbeam Road.

The Jacksonville-based company submitted plans to the city and the St. Johns River Water Management District for the proposed 5,700-square-foot building and 20 fueling positions on the 5.15-acre site.

The Daily’s is planned in what is now a parking lot in front of a shopping center owned by First Coast Energy and anchored by Bailey’s Health & Fitness.

The existing structures will remain.

England, Thims & Miller Inc. is the engineering consultant.

Second Target store to be updated

The Target store at southeast Beach and Hodges boulevards is slated for a store reconfiguration, the second in the area to be renovated.

Minneapolis-based Target Corp. wants to renovate the electronics department and add self-checkout stations at the 13740 Beach Blvd. store.

Williams Company Southeast of Orlando is the contractor for the $160,000 project.

Last week, the city approved a permit for the contractor to reconfigure the St. Johns Town Center Target at a cost of almost $169,000.

That project included new self-checkouts and renovations to the Starbucks and electronics and home departments, according to plans.

The Town Center store was built in 2005 and the Beach Boulevard location was developed in 2007. Target owns the stores.
