In preparation for February’s 2004 Mock Convention, 29 Duval County high schools and colleges participated in a Democratic straw poll Tuesday.
Billed as an “educational exercise,” each school represented one of the 55 delegations participating in the Democratic or Republican conventions, with
students having the opportunity to vote for one of the nine Democratic candidates.
“It’s so important to educate these kids about the elections process,” said Maggie Bulin, a representative from the City’s Emergency Preparedness Division, who volunteered for the exercise. “It’s our duty as Americans to vote.”
Results will be counted at the Supervisor of Elections Office, using the same optical scan ballot for Duval County elections, and will be released Thursday.
