Noon in June is right around the corner, so make sure to get your law clerks, legal interns and summer associates registered.

The Young Lawyers Section of The Jacksonville Bar Association has worked very hard to ensure this year’s event will be one that cannot be missed. Register today.

Noon in June is geared toward rising second- and third-year law students and young attorneys.

Participants spend an afternoon with legal professionals and judges to learn a unique perspective on the Jacksonville legal community and to receive guidance toward achieving their professional goals.

The focus of the afternoon is truly on giving the attendees as much information, guidance and advice as we can in an afternoon.

This year the event will be June 4 with registration starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Main Library, where lunch and an initial presentation will take place.

During lunch, participants will be greeted by Michael Orr, Young Lawyers Division president; Patrick Kilbane, YLS president, the Honorable Gary Flower, Duval County Court judge; and Megha Parekh, senior vice president and general counsel of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who will discuss professionalism, the practice of law in Jacksonville and share how they succeeded in their careers, among other topics.

The participants will hear presentations from many great Jacksonville-area legal minds and will take a walking tour in which they will be introduced to the federal courthouse, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and the new State Attorney’s Office.

Along the way, they will meet several other speakers who will further encourage and educate them on what the Jacksonville legal community has to offer.

During the tour of the federal courthouse, participants see various departments and sections that make our courthouse work including the law library, clerk’s office, courtrooms and the holding cells where criminal defendants are kept until it is time for their court appearance.

The tour will continue to the new State Attorney’s Office, where participants can expect to hear from Assistant State Attorney John Guy and Public Defender Matt Shirk, as well as the Honorable Dawn Hudson, Duval County Court judge.

The tour finishes at the offices of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid with a discussion of areas of need in our legal community, as well as hearing about some of this year’s most rewarding moments for advocates helping those residents in need.

The event will conclude with the YLS annual meeting, which will be held at Sweet Pete’s.

It is sure to be a wonderful opportunity for all your young lawyers to learn more about the legal community and to obtain advice to implement in their practice.

Don’t delay. Make sure to get them signed up soon.
