Duval County hotels continue to rebound

Room occupancy in August was 66.6%, 24% better than August 2020.

The hotel business in Northeast Florida continues to recover from the pandemic faster than other travel markets in the state.

Room occupancy in August in Duval County was 66.6%, an increase of 24% compared with August 2020. Statewide occupancy in August was 58.4%.

The average room rate was $98.30, the lowest since 2016. Room revenue was nearly $38 million, higher than 2017, 2019 and 2020 and slightly less than August 2018, Visit Jacksonville reports.

According to STR, a company that collects national hospitality industry data, year to date, occupancy in Jacksonville is 72.9%, similar to August 2018 and August 2019.

Room revenue is up $110 million over January through August 2020.

The Florida occupancy average during that eight-month period was 65.7%. Duval County is second to the Keys, which has about half the number of rooms to sell compared with Jacksonville.
