The Young Lawyers Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association will introduce a new member benefit: speed mentoring.

Scheduled Thursday after the annual “Noon in June” and before the section’s annual meeting and installation of officers, the event is designed to connect lawyers young in age or relatively new to the profession with seasoned practitioners.

“It’s like having a legal life coach,” said Duval County Judge Gary Flower, chair of the JBA Mentor Program Committee.

Twenty-five attorneys from various practice areas have registered to serve as mentors, Flower said. They’ll cycle through a series of three-minute timed conversations with potential mentees.

“It’s a ready, willing and committed group. You’ll be able to see if you hit it off, and then you can take it from there,” Flower said.

“We want to match attorneys with wisdom and experience with young lawyers who have enthusiasm and a love of the law.”

Speed mentoring will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Bellwether casual restaurant, Downtown on Adams Street near Laura Street.

It will be followed by announcement of the ballot results for the 2018-19 Young Lawyers Section board of governors and installation of officers.
