The city Office of Economic Development’s Downtown Development Review Board on Thursday approved the conceptual design for renovation of the former Southside Blueprint building at 1024 Kings Ave.
Owner Allen Stevens, president of Dav-Lin Interior Contractors, said he plans to upgrade the entrances to the building, replace the windows, add stucco and decorative panels, and paint the exterior of the structure. The building was originally a service station.
“The building is in rough shape. It needs a lot of love,” he said.
Stevens described the design concept as “putting a new face on it and breathing some life into it.”
When the exterior is complete, Stevens plans to renovate the interior and might move his company into the building or it could be leased to another tenant, he said.
The board suggested adding shade trees to the landscape to complement the existing palm trees.
The final design approval for the project will be considered July 3 at the board’s next scheduled meeting.
