The Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission is accepting applications for the position of U.S. district judge for the Middle District of Florida.

The U.S. president selects nominees to the federal judiciary and customarily consults with members of the U.S. Senate.

In this case, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio asked the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission to provide the names of three finalists for the position that will be created when U.S. District Judge for the Middle District Gregory Presnell takes senior status in April.

Application forms and instructions, along with the names and addresses of the commission members, are available at The Florida Bar website, www.floridabar.org; the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, www.flnd.uscourts.org; the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida,

www.flmd.uscourts.org; and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida,

www.flsd.uscourts.org.

The information also is available from the commission’s statewide chair, John Fitzgibbons, at The Law Offices of John M. Fitzgibbons, 707 N. Franklin St., Suite 700, Tampa, FL, 33602, or by calling (813) 221-8800.

Completed applications must be received by the commission chair and each commission member by 5 p.m. Jan. 18 in the manner specified by the Rules of Procedure.

Applications selected for personal interviews will be interviewed Feb. 17 in Orlando at the Ceremonial Courtroom 3A, George C. Young U.S. Courthouse, 401 West Central Blvd.

The names of the applicants who are selected for personal interviews and the interview times will be published on each website by Feb. 7.
