Florida Coastal hosts juvenile justice forum

Florida Secretary of Juvenile Justice W.G. “Bill” Bankhead spoke at Florida Coastal School of Law last week as part of the Issues 2002 Forum. Bankhead presented “Tough Love Works . . . a Perspective on Juvenile Justice in Florida”, telling audience members of the changes that have been made in the system over the past few years. And Bankhead had some good news to report, saying juvenile crime is down since January 1999, as is the number of repeat offenders. Bankhead said the current focus is on prevention and early intervention, with funding for prevention programs showing an increase of 30 percent.
