Gatlin Development Co.’s new office in the Riverplace Tower appears to be a lot closer drive for Franklin C. Gatlin III, CEO of the Fort Lauderdale-based company.

That’s because Gatlin and Christina Gatlin of Fort Lauderdale recently bought a $4.2 million estate in San Marco.

Gatlin has not returned several telephone calls the past week about the new office space in Jacksonville or a call this morning about the office space and the home purchase.

Because he has been unavailable, he could not be asked questions about speculation that Gatlin Development was relocating its headquarters to Jacksonville.

State corporate records show Gatlin is CEO, secretary and a director of Gatlin Development Co., making him the key decision maker in the headquarters location.

While the possibility of two Franklin C. Gatlin III’s living in Fort Lauderdale cannot be ruled out, whitepages.com found just one exact match for the name.

In any event, Gatlin has a 1.5-mile drive from his new home in San Marco to the new office being built out in Riverplace Tower on the Downtown Southbank.

It’s not just any home. It originally was built in 1931 for John Swisher of Swisher Cigars and is described on Source MLS as a “palatial Mediterranean Revival style home” with a pool, pool house, dock and covered boathouse at the St. Johns River.

The Gatlins bought the 9,003-square-foot home at 2252 River Road from Arthur and Jennifer Cahoon. The deed was signed June 1 and recorded Monday with the Duval County Clerk of Court.

Property records show the two-story house has 4 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. Including the garage, open porches and balconies, the house offers 11,813 square feet of space. It sits on 1.24 acres and is assessed at almost $2.7 million.

Bank of America issued a $3 million mortgage to the Gatlins on June 3.

Meanwhile, Gatlin’s home in Fort Lauderdale appears to be for sale.

The Bank of America mortgage lists Gatlin’s residence at 901 N. Rio Vista Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Realtor.com shows property at that address is on the market for $3.35 million.

That address is 1.25 miles from Gatlin’s corporate Fort Lauderdale office, but a long way from Jacksonville.
