As expected, Adam Hollingsworth resigned as Gov. Rick Scott’s chief of staff, effective at the end of the month.

Hollingsworth, who work in the administrations of Jacksonville mayors Ed Austin and John Peyton, had served in that role since 2012.

“Adam has been laser-focused on helping make Florida the best place for future generations,’’ Scott said.

Hollingsworth is being replaced by Melissa Sellers, who most recently managed Scott’s re-election campaign. She previously worked as Scott’s communications director, after also holding that position for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

“Melissa did an outstanding job leading my re-election efforts and running communications during my first term, and I have full confidence that she will do an excellent job as my chief of staff,” Scott said in a prepared statement.

The governor also named Jackie Schutz as his new communications director. She has worked in Scott’s office since 2011, serving as a spokeswoman and traveling press secretary.

Most recently, she was deputy communications director for the Scott campaign. “Jackie has been on my communications team since my first year in office and has helped convey my vision of Florida being the best place for families,” Scott said.
