Denise Deisler has been named executive director of the Jacksonville Humane Society, succeeding Leona Sheddan.

Deisler, most recently the executive director of the Humane Society of Manatee County, will be introduced at a 10 a.m. ceremony today at the Jacksonville Humane Society offices at 8464 Beach Blvd. Sheddan stepped down in February.

The society also will provide a progress report about its new community animal hospital. The facility is a low-cost veterinary clinic for pet owners in the Jacksonville area.

Deisler has more than 15 years of experience in fundraising, non-profit management and operations. She has worked at animal welfare organizations in the United States.

The society has been raising money to build a new facility since fire destroyed the majority of the organization’s buildings in 2007. The organization continues to raise funds through a capital campaign to build a new adoption and education facility.

The Jacksonville Humane Society, founded in 1885, serves more than 4,000 animals each year.

It is a no-kill, nonprofit center for animal welfare and education that serves as a resource for all companion-animal related issues.
