Michael Huyghue is changing jobs, but he’s staying in Jacksonville and intends to be the Chamber of Commerce’s top fundraiser next year.

Huyghue, getting goodbyes from Jaguar players Sunday in the team’s locker room, affirmed he will lead the Cornerstone initiative in 2002. He was appointed to the position by incoming Chamber chair Lynn Pappas last month.

“I’ll be in Jacksonville and I’ll be working hard for the Chamber,” said Huyghue, who has resigned as the Jaguars’ senior vice president for football operations to start a sports agent business, which will be headquartered in Independent Square.

Huyghue will detail his new venture at a press conference today, which also will be attended by 2001 Chamber chair Carol Thompson and Jaguars’ owner Wayne Weaver.

Paul Vance, the Jaguars’ general counsel, has been elevated to Huyghue’s position and also was in the Alltel Stadium locker room Sunday after the team ended a five-game losing streak by beating Cincinnati, 30-13.

The new firm will be named Axcess Sports and Entertainment and will have offices here and Orlando, where it also will have a training facility. The business will recruit athletes and will offer full-service financial assistance, including negotiating contracts. Huyghue has handled that role for the Jaguars since the team was awarded a franchise in 1994.
