JAX Chamber reopens building, rotates workers

The business group offers recommendations for corporate offices reopening amid COVID-19 pandemic.

JAX Chamber reopened its Downtown building at 3 Independent Drive for employees on a limited basis, according to an email sent to members by JAX Chamber President and CEO Daniel Davis.

Employees are reporting to the office in two shifts. Some are in the building Mondays and Wednesdays, the remainder come in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. When not in the office, employees will work remotely. All will work remotely on Fridays.

Staff members have their temperature checked as they enter the building. They are required to wear cloth face coverings when they leave their desks and are practicing safe social distancing consistent with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The chamber plans to bring employees back full-time and open the building for visitors in a limited capacity June 1. 

The email also offered best practices for reopening businesses adopted by the chamber’s Business Advisory Group.

Included are specific recommendations for reopening corporate offices:

• Practice social distancing. Stay at least 6 feet away from others.

• The use of cloth face coverings is recommended, but masks do not need to be worn while at desks.

• Log and manage visitors while maintaining social distancing.

• Create alternate waiting areas to enforce social distancing.

• Communicate to staff that the increased need for precautions will be ongoing and does not stop because the office reopened.

• Ensure processes are in place to have 100% infection prevention practices.

• Leave room and office doors open to create a touch-free environment.

• When reopening, bring staff back in rotating shifts to limit contact.

• Rotate staff in the workspace to minimize contact.

• Develop contingency staff to address potential staff shortages due to either quarantine requirements or illness.
