Community First Credit Union will once again have its name on a Downtown event.

Effective Oct. 16, Jaxsons Night Market, a monthly open-air gathering of local farmers, street food vendors and artisans, will move from the vacant lot at the intersection of Adams and Laura streets to Hemming Plaza with the credit union as its presenting sponsor.

“Jaxsons Night Market is providing a wonderful outlet for creativity, collaboration and entrepreneurship,” said Community First CEO and President John Hirabayashi in a news release.

The credit union previously sponsored for two years “Community First Saturday.” Originally presented Downtown along the Northbank Riverwalk, the event will be presented this season at a variety of venues, beginning Saturday at Sykes and Cooper Farms in Elkton, near St. Augustine.

Community First also sponsored the “Pitch Deck” stage in Hemming Plaza during One Spark.

Mike Field, executive director of the market and a member of the board of directors of Friends of Hemming Park, said the support of the credit union will allow the event to promote Downtown and help small businesses grow.

“We need a consortium of

community partners like Community First Credit Union to collaborate and help propel Jacksonville to become the vibrant center of culture within our region,” he said.

Field also is the founder of “Jax Cash Mob,” an event that encourages people to gather and then shop at a selected local business.

Jaxsons Night Market is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month. Participating vendors include Intuition Ale Works, Black Hog Farms, FreshJax and Grassroots Natural Market.
