Members of the Jacksonville Bar Association hosted Florida Bar president Terry Russell of Fort Lauderdale at its monthly luncheon last week. Russell praised the work of the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid office and reminded those attending the importance of providing legal assistance to the indigent. Russell also spoke briefly about the impending battle in the legislature over the independence of the Bar and the judiciary and about the need for lawyers to be guardians of the Constitution and Bill of Rights in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
