Kraft Foods Group Inc. is seeking $425,000 in taxpayer dollars to expand its Maxwell House facility Downtown and create 10 new jobs.
In addition, the company will retain the 227 employees who work there and invest $16 million in capital expenses for adding coffee and bag lines.
The $425,000 in city incentives will come in the form of a Recaptured Enhanced Value grant, which will be equal to 50 percent of the incremental increase in taxes paid on the property.
The 390,000-square foot coffee roasting plant at 735 E. Bay St. is one of the company’s two coffee roasting facilities in the country, with the other in San Leandro, Calif., according to the project summary.
The summary states the California plant and a facility in Pennsylvania are competing with Jacksonville for the project.
The company operates more than 35 manufacturing facilities and more than 30 distributions center in the U.S. and Canada, totaling about 22,500 jobs in North America, according to the summary.
The 10 new Jacksonville jobs will have average annual wages of $57,400, plus an additional $36,200 in benefits, for a total of $936,000 in compensation.
The 227 jobs that will be retained have average wages of $57,400, plus benefits.
Legislation for the incentives was filed Wednesday afternoon and will be introduced Tuesday to City Council.
