Legal notes: 3 named partner at Holland & Knight's Jacksonville office

Three Jacksonville attorneys are among 31 elected as partners at Holland & Knight.

They are Robert Riva Jr., Joshua Roberts and Andrew Steif.

Riva works in the firm’s Real Estate Section and represents clients in the areas of real estate financing and restructuring, development, leasing, acquisitions and dispositions. He earned a law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Roberts is a member of the firm’s Litigation Section and has experience in state and federal courts with commercial litigation matters. He is a graduate of the University of Florida Levin College of Law and received his bachelor’s degree from UF.

Steif also is a member of the firm’s Litigation Section, where he represents clients in real property and construction litigation. He has expertise in defending transportation companies in lawsuits relating to high-value cargo damage claims.

Steif earned his bachelor’s degree at UF and his law degree from Florida State University College of Law.

Orender joins Burr & Forman firm

Samantha Alves Orender joined the recently opened Jacksonville office of Burr & Forman.

She focuses on commercial loan litigation, mortgage foreclosures, lender liability defense and other matters related to defaulted loan workouts and collections.

Outside the firm, Orender is a member of the Women’s Giving Alliance and a board member for Generation W and The Seaside Playgarden Preschool.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Amherst College and her law degree from the University of Florida.

Florida Bar hosting virtual career fair

The Florida Bar Practice Resource Institute, in partnership with YourMembership, will host a virtual career fair noon to 3 p.m. March 31.

The event allows lawyers looking for new opportunities to talk online with employers.

Jonathon Israel, director of The Florida Bar Practice Resource Institute, said the online platform “makes it very easy for hiring companies and job seekers to connect from anywhere.”

The platform makes it easy to register, upload a resume and learn about participating employers before the event.

On the day of the event, participants can log in and interact one-on-one with employers through online interviews. After the event, participants can log in to facilitate follow-ups.

Maxwell on board Florida’s Children First

Bruce Maxwell of Terrell Hogan was named to the board of directors for Florida’s Children First.

He was co-chair of the nonprofit’s 2015 Child Advocacy Awards. The agency is an advocate for at-risk children, especially those in foster care.

Maxwell has served on The Jacksonville Bar Association’s Judicial Relations and Professionalism committees. At the law firm, he assists injured workers within the maritime industry.

He will serve on the nonprofits board from 2016-19.
