Legal notes: March 15 is deadline to apply for 4th Judicial Circuit judgeship

The 4th Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission is accepting applications to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former Circuit Judge Mark Hulsey.

Candidates must be a member of The Florida Bar for the preceding five years and a registered voter. They also must live in Clay, Duval or Nassau counties at the time they would assume office.

Applications should be mailed to Gilbert Feltel Jr., 4th Circuit JNC chair, Tanner Bishop, One Independent Drive, Suite 1700, Jacksonville, FL 32202 and emailed with a color photograph to [email protected].

Applications are due by 5 p.m. March 15.

Interviews will be April 6 in Chief Judge Mark Mahon’s chambers at the Duval County Courthouse.

Nelson featured at GrayRobinson forum

State Attorney Melissa Nelson is the featured speaker March 8 at GrayRobinson’s Community Leader Forum.

She will talk about “Reshaping Criminal Justice in the Year Ahead.”

Nelson defeated Angela Corey last year to take over the office in which she once served as an assistant state attorney.

Sarnowski, Swiger partners at H&K

Edward Sarnowski and Lindsay Dennis Swiger were elected partners at Holland & Knight’s Jacksonville office.

Sarnowski, a member of the firm’s Business Section, focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and other security law matters and corporate transactions, according to a news release.

He received his law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law and bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida.

Swiger is a member of the firm’s Litigation Section and defends employers in employment and labor law litigation. She also counsels and advises human resource professionals and management teams.

She received her law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law and bachelor’s degree from Florida State University.

Burr & Forman adds three partners

Burr & Forman continues to expand in Northeast Florida, adding three real estate partners in the Jacksonville office it opened just over a year ago.

John Ibach, Timothy May and Chris Strohmenger previously practiced at Rogers Towers.

Ibach’s work includes with developers on land acquisitions and sales, leasing and construction of single-tenant properties and retail shopping centers, according to a news release.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, his master’s from the London School of Economics and his law degree from Vanderbilt School of Law.

May’s clients include those involved in secured financial transactions and commercial real estate acquisitions, developments and dispositions.

He received his undergraduate, MBA and law degrees from the University of Memphis.

Strohmenger works with clients through the acquisition, development, sale and finance of commercial and large-scale real estate projects throughout the Southeast.

He also works with banks in transactions with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. as a receiver for failed banking institutions.

He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida.

Saalfield Shad adds two partners

J. Brent Allen and Dana Jacobs have been promoted to partner at the Saalfield Shad law firm.

Allen is a member of the firm’s health care and litigation departments, according to a news release. His practice includes representing health-care institutions and corporations in civil matters.

Jacobs works in the firm’s litigation department, where she focuses on civil practice on insurance defense claims including personal injury and wrongful death cases, automobile accidents and trucking cases.

Six promoted at Rogers Towers

Rogers Towers recently promoted six attorneys to shareholders. They are:

• Gabriel Crafton, a member of the Construction and Bank Litigation departments. He earned his law degree from Florida State University College of Law and joined the firm in 2008.

• Samuel Horovitz, who joined the firm in 2010 and is a member of the Labor and Employment Department. He is a graduate of the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida.

• Scott Kennelly, a member of the Litigation Department and the Banking and Financial Services Practice Group and Alcohol Industry Team. He joined the firm in 2009 and is a graduate of the Levin College of Law at UF.

• Joseph Kincart, a member of the Business and Tax Department practicing in areas including intellectual property, patents and trademarks. He joined the firm in July and received his law degree from Pace University School of Law.

• E. Carson Lange joined the firm in 2011 and works in the Litigation Department. She received her law degree from the Levin College of Law at UF.

• Scott Padgett focuses on commercial litigation, with an emphasis on property and business disputes. A graduate of the Levin College of Law at UF, Padgett joined the firm in 2008.
