Unable to get a budget done on time, the House and Senate agreed Friday to extend the annual legislative session until 11:59 p.m. today.

A resolution to extend the session said lawmakers will only deal with the budget and budget-related bills Monday. The 60-day session was scheduled to end Friday. But lawmakers had to extend because they did not finish a budget by Tuesday.

The state Constitution requires a 72-hour “cooling off” period before lawmakers can vote on the budget. They will be able to vote on the budget as early as 2:43 p.m. today, as that will be 72 hours after the finished budget was presented to lawmakers.
