There’s one judge who is being opposed in the upcoming elections — Gregg McCaulie.

John Joseph Cascone, an attorney in Fernandina Beach, filed recently for the Circuit Court Group 5 seat held by McCaulie.

To help combat the challenge, McCaulie tapped attorney Gary Pajcic as his campaign manager, attorney Howard Coker as finance manager, and criminal defense attorney Bob Willis as treasurer. Wayne Hogan of Brown Terrell is also on the team.

“We’ve got good support,” said McCaulie, “and we’re taking this very seriously. I love being a judge and I want to continue to be one.”

McCaulie said he looks forward to the campaign, especially meeting people in the district.

“I don’t really claim to know the scope of how best to tackle the political part of it,” he said. “But others around me do.”

McCaulie said television spots, fundraisers and radio ads will be part of his campaign strategy. Paula Weatherby, an independent political consultant, is handling the public relations.

“Geographically, it’s a lot to cover,” said McCaulie, referring to a district that spans from Fernandina to Green Cove Springs. “I’ll be getting some new tires this summer.”

The election is Sept. 10.
