MedExpress will open its first neighborhood medical center in Northeast Florida on Sept. 7 at 7720 Merrill Road in Arlington.

A ribbon cutting and open house will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 6 

As part of the opening, the facility will offer free sports physicals to patients ages 6 and older through Sept. 12.

MedExpress has 23 neighborhood medical centers in Florida, with plans to open a second center in Jacksonville this winter and a new center in Ocoee this year. 

The center will provide urgent care, employer health services and basic wellness and prevention services.

Walk-in treatment is available for everyday illness and injury, along with more advanced services such as X-rays, IVs, labs, minor surgery, stitches and treatment for broken bones, sprains and strains. 

Local employers can use MedExpress for employer health services including workers’ compensation, injury care, pre- and ongoing employment screenings, physicals and regulatory exams. Basic wellness and prevention services offered at MedExpress include sports physicals, routine physicals and immunizations. 

The center will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, with no appointment necessary.

Gate to hold grand re-opening of flagship store

Gate Petroleum Corp. will hold a grand re-opening of its store at 9540 San Jose Blvd. at 6 a.m. Thursday.

 The remodeled 6,400-square-foot store features Gate’s Fresh Kitchen, a fast-casual café serving freshly prepared food and drinks including pizza, empanadas, smoothies, milkshakes and specialty iced coffees.

The remodeled store also serves fountain drinks, Bold Bean coffee and  Yobe frozen yogurt with a toppings bar.

The new Gate store includes more fueling stations, additional parking and improved vehicle circulation.

It also offers ethanol-free and flex-fuel products.

JAX Chamber ‘talent’ forum

JAXUSA Partnership, in conjunction with CareerSource Northeast Florida, will host “Investing in Talent,” a financial services workforce forum from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the JAX Chamber, 3 Independent Drive.

Get insight into self-driving tech

Autonomous vehicle technology is the subject of a forum to be held jointly by the JAX Chamber and U.S. Chamber Technology Engagement Center on Sept. 20 at the University of North Florida. 

Speakers will discuss recent policy changes at the state level that allow for self-driving delivery vehicles; current trends and practical applications of AV technology; and how the business community can leverage future AV trends.

Keynote speaker is Corey Ershow, transportation policy manager for Lyft.

An AV demonstration will follow the forum. Tickets cost $25.

Crowley wins quality award

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s liner services group won its 15th Quest for Quality Award from Logistics Management Magazine this year in the Ocean Carrier category. The award recognizes Crowley as a 2017 “Best of the Best” based on its on-time performance, value, information technology, customer service and equipment and operations in the transportation and logistics industry.

Nutrition professor wins UNF’s highest faculty honor

The University of North Florida will present Catherine Christie, associate dean and nutrition professor in the Brooks College of Health, the 2017 Distinguished Professor award during the 46th Annual Fall Convocation ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday in the Fine Arts Center, Lazzara Performance Hall.

Christie is the 40th faculty member at UNF to hold the highest honor conferred upon a faculty member.

She has co-authored four books and is the editor of the Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy, which is updated and published annually by the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Christie earned a doctorate and a master’s degree in food and nutrition from Florida State University as well as a bachelor’s degree in home economics education, also from FSU.

Freebourn named CFO of Jacksonville University

Jacksonville University named Randal Freebourn its new chief financial officer. 

Freebourn previously was vice president for finance and administration and assistant treasurer at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. Before that, he was assistant vice chancellor for business services and comptroller at Purdue University’s Calumet regional campus. 

Freebourn earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Dayton and his master’s from the University of Notre Dame.

Stellar names Chapman new director of PSM compliance

Stellar, a worldwide design, engineering, construction and mechanical services firm, has named Michael Chapman director of PSM compliance and technological solutions.

Chapman will lead Stellar’s Process Safety Management Team, which provides compliance solutions for clients including audits, process hazard analyses, mechanical integrity inspections and corrective action support. He also will lead development of advanced technology to enhance refrigeration operator/technician training to increase awareness and understanding of ammonia hazards, and to teach best practices in system operations and maintenance for accident prevention.

Chapman holds a masters degree in public administration and a bachelors in environmental studies, both from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He lives in St. Augustine with his wife and three children.

Goldfaden, Harden named shareholders At NAI Hallmark

NAI Hallmark, formerly NAI Hallmark Partners, has named Keith Goldfaden and Christian Harden as the company’s newest shareholders and principals.

Goldfaden and Harden have been with the company since 2007 and 2009, respectively, and will manage all aspects of the brokerage, capital markets and property management business.

The expansion allows founding principals Alex Coley and Jeff Conn to focus on real estate development under the Hallmark Partners brand, which has developed more than $400 million in projects across Northeast Florida the past 24 years.
