Illinois artist Bruce White, who designed the monument, supervised the installation of the piece Thursday afternoon. The 40-foot high sculpture took a year to plan and another year to build. “The piece is stainless steel, polished and brushed; it won’t rust,” said White. An electrical conduit will be connected to the sculpture, which will provide light to the bottom of the piece, producing an auburn glow reminiscent of burning embers. A dedication ceremony is planned for September.
