MOSH planning busy winter season

The Museum of Science and History has a busy winter season planned, beginning Jan. 12 with Planetarium Winter Shows.

The planetarium will offer two programs this season, Spirits from the Sky: Thunder on the Land and Winter Skies. In Spirits from the Sky, which runs Monday-Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m., visitors will enjoy stories of familiar constellations told from the perspective of Native American tribes.

Winter Skies will take visitors on a tour of the current night sky. That show is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Cosmic Concerts begin Jan. 12. The popular laser show features the biggest hits from both N’Sync and the Backstreet Boys. It plays Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m.

On Jan. 21, MOSH will host a Martin Luther King Jr. celebration from 1-3 p.m..

In February, Black History Day is Feb. 2. MOSH will celebrate the accomplishments of the African-American community through cultural programs, art displays and group performances. The celebration runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Feb. 9 is Water Education Day. Visitors will receive free admission to the museum to learn about water pollution and the measures taken to conserve this resource. Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.

On Feb. 18, President’s Day, MOSH is hosting a presidential party from 1-4 p.m. to celebrate our nation’s past leaders.

Star Date 2002 is scheduled for Feb. 22-23. MOSH will team with local science fiction clubs to celebrate the sci-fi genre in television and film with games, activities and planetarium programs.

As winter turns to spring in March, MOSH will display an Ultra Flight Aircraft exhibition, including ultra light planes, gliders, gyrocopters, parasails, extreme kites and flight simulation.

Spring Camps begin March 18-22. Campers can enjoy a week of historical study and astronomical discoveries.

The museum will do double duty March 23 with an Easter egg hunt in Friendship Park and International Public Science Day.

MOSH closes out March with an exhibition of quilts to celebrate Women’s History Day.
