It might sound somewhat paradoxical, but when a law firm makes a professional move up, sometimes it requires a physical move in the downward direction.

That’s what’s happened to GrayRobinson in the Bank of America Tower at 50 N. Laura St.

When the firm opened its Jacksonville office two years ago, it leased about a third of the 16th floor for its five attorneys and staff. Last week, GrayRobinson moved five floors down after furnishing a suite of offices that encompass three-fourths of the floor with an option to occupy the rest of the 11th floor when the next expansion is required.

“When we came to Jacksonville, we had five attorneys on staff. In two years, we’ve moved into space for eight partners and seven associates plus paralegals. We had completely outgrown our space on the 16th floor.

“We have also hired a real estate attorney so we could add a real estate division here in the Jacksonville office. Now we can offer transactional services as well as litigation so we can handle any legal need for any business,” said Managing Partner Kenneth Jacobs.

“The move also makes the firm more visible and improved the view from our offices.”

Jacobs also said the new office is linked to the other nine offices in the state through a high-speed, secure digital document management system. It allows all the offices to have access to every document in the system on a real-time basis.

“We want to be known as full-service for the business community and the ‘go-to’ firm in Florida.”

Invitations will soon be mailed for an open house next month and Jacobs promises it will be a memorable event.

“GrayRobinson is well-known all over the state for our parties and we’re going to make sure that tradition remains intact,” he said.
