The Senate on Tuesday officially accepted a motion to withdraw from consideration a bill (SB 1846) that drew heavy criticism for proposing to let Jack Nicklaus build new golf courses in state parks.

Rep. Patrick Rooney (R-West Palm Beach) said last week he would withdraw the bill after receiving lots of calls objecting to it.

At the end of its floor session on Tuesday the Senate, without discussion, withdrew the Senate version, sponsored by Sen. John Thrasher (R-St. Augustine).

News outlets reported last week that the measures arose out of talks between Nicklaus and Gov. Rick Scott on promoting tourism. The measures called for specifically hiring Nicklaus to create a Jack Nicklaus Golf Trail with new courses at several parks.
