Mission
To increase access to health care through developing and coordinating a network of volunteer medical providers and donated health care resources to compassionately care for the uninsured, underserved of Duval County.

Serving Jacksonville
Since 1993.

Those served
In Duval County, more than 7,000 specialty services were donated in 2010-11 at a value of $12 million.

Biggest challenge
Finding timely specialty care for individuals with acute illness, who need immediate assistance beyond and instead of emergency rooms, such as a new cancer diagnosis.

Biggest satisfaction
Getting the patients the help they need and in particular, preventing future pain and suffering, disability, joblessness, homelessness and even end of life through an all-volunteer approach (physicians, hospitals, diagnostic centers, pharmacy, nurses, clinic volunteers).

Cincinnati, Ohio.

First experience with community service
Student tutor in high school for elementary students who were struggling in school with math and reading.

Your job before We Care Jacksonville Inc.
Executive director and founder of Discover Health! Adventures in Learning, a nonprofit dedicated to combating childhood health issues through preventive education. We particularly focused on preventing childhood obesity. I received an MBA in 1981 from Wharton.

Upcoming events
Thursday: 5:30 p.m., 2011 Caring Awards, EverBank Field Terrace Suites. We will be honoring and thanking Baptist Health, Brooks Health System, Mayo Clinic, Memorial Health, St. Vincent’s HealthCare and UF & Shands Jacksonville for their incredible amount of donated services to uninsured, underserved patients as well as their leadership in supporting We Care Jacksonville through the Strategic Development Council. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver will serve as honorary chairs. Jacksonville physicians provide entertainment. The event fee is $25 per person.
