The First Coast’s only locally based nonprofit organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses.
Serving Jacksonville
Dreams Come True is based in Jacksonville. It was founded in 1984 by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. McGehee. Dreams Come True only serves children living or being treated in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
Those served
We average about 175 dreams annually and since our inception in 1984, we have granted more than 2,700 dreams.
Biggest challenge
Dreams Come True directs 100 percent of donations directly to dreams, unless otherwise specified. My challenge is to raise unrestricted gifts that totally support making dreams come true.
Biggest satisfaction
Working with the most caring and unbelievable staff you could imagine. The smiles on the faces of our dreamers and their families make every day a blessing. I walk in the front door every morning knowing that I have the best job in the world and I get to work my passion of helping children.
Hometown
Jacksonville native, born at St. Vincent’s.
First experience with community service
I have always been taught to give back and have at various levels. My first organized community service was in the early 1990s when I joined the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville. We are always doing community service, from donating blood to feeding the homeless.
Your job before Dreams Come True
I was the director of development for the Daniel Foundation for 4 1/2 years.
Upcoming events
May 2: Our 10th anniversary of the Sam Kouvaris Dreams Come True Golf Tournament will be at the San Jose Country Club. Our goal is to raise more than $125,000.
Throughout the year we also welcome third-party events organized by local companies and individuals in the efforts to sponsor dreams. Information about these events and how to organize a third-party event to benefit Dreams Come True can be found on our website.
In addition, we have our Horizon Board, our young professional group, which hosts socials and events throughout the year to support Dreams Come True.
