Executive Director, Family Promise of Jacksonville Inc.

Mission
Jacksonville congregations working together to empower homeless families to achieve lasting self-sufficiency. Family Promise is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that is affiliated with more than 171 interfaith hospitality networks nationwide. We provide shelter, meals and intensive case management for families without homes by partnering with local churches, professional service organizations and hundreds of volunteers. Local churches in our network provide much of our support, infrastructure and volunteers.

Serving Jacksonville
We started serving families in Jacksonville in 2006. We are Jacksonville-based. The national office is in Summit, N.J.

Those served
We serve families in Duval County. We serve about 20 families a year in the network with direct services; 80 percent of these families will find employment and regular housing. We provide an additional 250 families a year with indirect services: case management, food, clothing, furniture and so on.

Biggest challenge
Raising funds in this economy. With more families in crisis, finding funding to serve them is more difficult.

Biggest satisfaction
Seeing homeless families move into their own home.

Hometown
Burlington, Wis.

First experience with community service
Working as volunteer coordinator at my church, Crossroad United Methodist Church.
