Rena Coughlin
Chief Executive Officer
Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida

Mission
The Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida enables a thriving nonprofit community by equipping nonprofit leadership, facilitating collective action and enhancing public understanding.

Serving Jacksonville
Since 2002. The office is in Jacksonville and serves Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties.

Those served
The Nonprofit Center has 186 nonprofit organization members. However, we support the entire Northeast Florida nonprofit community of about 900 organizations, which employ 36,000 individuals. Responses from our nonprofit members to our annual survey tell us that they employ an average of 47 people, engage an average of 630 volunteers annually, and serve an average of 48,200 people from our community every year. These statistics reveal a more powerful industry than perhaps many expect.

Biggest challenge
We’re a membership organization, so we are constantly on our toes to stay relevant to the nonprofit community. It’s a challenge to balance our resources between responding to our members’ urgent, current and local needs with a business imperative to look for and prepare our members for future trends.

Biggest satisfaction
Providing a place and the means for the extraordinary local nonprofit leadership to work together and be recognized as key elements of our economic, social and political communities.

Hometown
Virginia Beach, Virginia.

First experience with community service
Volunteering Saturdays in middle school at the local ASPCA, and it didn’t work out. At the end of every volunteer day I’d beg my parents to adopt every dog and cat in the shelter. They gently steered me toward walkathons and fundraisers for causes instead.

Your job before the Nonprofit Center
At another nonprofit. I was the CEO at Girls Inc. of Jacksonville before joining the Nonprofit Center.

Upcoming events
Our goal is to help other nonprofits in the community, so we hope people will visit www.WeGive.org, the Nonprofit Center’s website that lets you “shop” for local nonprofit projects that need your donation. You can purchase gift cards on the site and let family, friends and colleagues experience the joy of giving.
