• The Jacksonville Ski Club will host a trip preview for the 2002-03 winter season May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the South Point Hotel. The meeting is free and open to the public. Election of officers will also take place. For information, call 477-1490.

• Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department will host a luncheon Thursday at noon to honor firefighters who have served at Station 10, which is located at the corner of McDuff Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. The station is one of the oldest in the city, dating to the late 1920s. It handles an average of 275 calls each month.

• Riverside Avondale Preservation, Inc. will host is annual Spring Tour of Homes Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from Noon-5 p.m. Tickets for the self-guided tour are $15 and available at White’s Cards and Books and the RAP House. For information, call 389-2449.

• The Beaches Democratic Club is scheduled to meet April 30 at 7 p.m. at the Beaches Library.

• The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville recently awarded grants to five organizations through the Cultural Services Capital Program. Those receiving grants included the Cummer Museum of Arts & Gardens, $284, 230 to increase gallery space; Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art, $284,230 to build the second and third floor galleries; Museum of Science and History, $300,000 for renovations to core exhibits and activity centers; Theatre Jacksonville, $29,075 to repair air conditioning duct work and the auditorium roof, and WJCT, $102,465 to purchase systems and power generators.
