• Matthew W. Baca, Harold Timothy Gillis, William I. Gulliford III, Nakia Purdie-Lawson and William E. Morlan have joined Rogers, Towers, Bailey, Jones and Gay, P.A. as associates. Baca practices as a patent attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and specializes in patent, trademark and copyright law with emphasis on the prosecution of patents before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Gillis practices in the firm’s Business and Tax Department, specializing in the areas of federal taxation and state and local taxation. Gulliford has joined the firm’s Real Estate Department. He brings extensive experience to the firm in real estate, commercial loans, landlord and tenant law. Purdie-Lawson practices law in the firm’s Litigation Department and the Labor and Employment Practice Group. She is a graduate of Florida State University College of Law and Florida A&M University. Morlan has joined the firm’s Business and Tax Department. His practice is focused on mergers and acquisitions, capital formation, asset sales, reorganizations, electronic commerce and strategic alliance transactions, with emphasis on the financial services and technology industries.

• The Jacksonville Fire/Rescue Department’s Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service is scheduled for Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at Fire Station 1, 611 Liberty St.

• Junior Achievement of Florida’s First Coast has added three new members to its board of directors. They are Michael Kelly, president and COO of the Super Bowl Host Committee; Candance Moody, vice president of marketing and communications for First Coast Workforce Development/WorkSource; and Tracy Scott, president of the Duval County Council of PTAs/PTSAs.

• The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All Stars are scheduled to perform Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the University of North Florida as part of the Great American Jazz Series. Tickets are $25, $8 for students.

• Betty S. Price has joined Legacy Trust Co. as vice president/senior trust officer.

• Shands Jacksonville and the University of Florida have hired Brandon McCray as associate director of development. He is responsible for coordinating and encouraging private donations as well as volunteer leadership in support of Shands Jacksonville and the UF Health Science Center Jacksonville. He has been with the Bank of America.

• The Jacksonville Jaguars are inviting their fans to donate their wireless phones before Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Donated phones will be sold and the proceeds will be given to non-profit domestic violence prevention organizations. The phones will be collected at gates 1-4 from 2 p.m. until kickoff (4:15 p.m.)

• The City’s Office of Volunteer Services and the Emergency Preparedness Division have been awarded an Emergency Management Grant to create a Community Emergency Response Team, which will become part of President Bush’s homeland security effort.
