Local builder

Sid Higginbotham is a local builder who has been building in golf course communities since the 1970s.

WHY BUILD IN GOLF COURSE COMMUNITIES RATHER THAN A

NON-GOLF COURSE COMMUNITY?

“Our product is higher-end custom homes and that’s what we sell in golf course communities. The product that we build markets better on a golf course or on waterfront property.”

WHY DO YOU THINK PEOPLE SHOULD LIVE THERE?

“Most of the people who buy in golf course communities are golfers so they have their recreational facilities right in their back yard. Even for people who aren’t golfers, it is still beautiful because you aren’t looking at someone’s back yard, you are looking at a wide expansive view of a golf course. Even if you don’t golf, it’s beautiful.”

WILL GOLF COURSE COMMUNITIES ONE DAY BE AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE?

“I doubt it, unless someone puts out a product above what we have. The lots in golf course communities are kind of pricey.”

DO YOU THINK THEY THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE?

“Yes, I do. We have built in several golf course communities since the 1970s and our product goes over very well there.”

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT BUILDING IN A GOLF COURSE

COMMUNITY?

“I like to think that I can build my type house there and the value will be there [in the future]. The amenities are great. Anytime you have a golf course they also have tennis facilities, hiking, bike trails and nature trails because normally they are in the larger planned communities.”

WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE ABOUT BUILDING IN A GOLF

COURSE COMMUNITY?

“I don’t dislike anything. The lots are pricey, but you get what you pay for.”

HOW DO YOU MARKET YOUR PRODUCT IN A GOLF COURSE

COMMUNITY TO THE PUBLIC?

“Our reputation is building higher-end custom houses and most of our customers come to us. They hear about us by word of mouth.”

WHEN PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO BUILD IN A GOLF COURSE

COMMUNITY, WHAT REASON DO THEY GIVE?

“Most of the time it’s one of two things: price of the lot or the association fees.”
